American Council Pledges to Flip Arizona School Board Following Anti-Religious Vote

Rocklin, CA - The Washington Elementary School District in Arizona, one of the largest school districts in the state, has unanimously voted to stop hiring student-teachers from Arizona Christian University. The five-member board said they cannot support teachers with traditional values in the classroom. In response, Arizona Christianity University has filed a lawsuit against the district.

We stand with Arizona Christian University and their lawsuit against the Washington Elementary School District for their prejudice and anti-religious position of not hiring Christian teachers. The WESD Board said before a unanimous vote that having teachers with Biblical values in their school district would pose too much of a threat.

The U.S. Constitution guarantees free exercise of religion and government cannot impose hostile restrictions or regulations to those religious beliefs. Barring employment due to sincerely held religious convictions is dishonorable and unlawful.

The American Council is committed to pour financial resources into the Washington Elementary School District School Board Race in 2024 to elect competent, balanced, and family-centered leaders who focus on education and not politics. We are working with our partners in Phoenix and Glendale to recruit, train, and support candidates to run.
