American Council Responds to Rocklin Unified Parental Notification Policy

Rocklin, California — American Council President Tanner DiBella issued the following statement after the Rocklin Unified School Board voted 4-1 on Wednesday to pass a Parental Notification Policy. The policy notifies a parent/guardian if their child requests to be identified as a gender other than their biological sex or gender or requests to use a name that differs from their legal name.

"Thank you to Trustee Saathoff, Trustee Price, Trustee Counter, and Trustee Hupp for displaying true leadership. Since 2020, there has been a lot of broken trust between educators and parents. This policy reestablishes that trust and creates a healthy accountability framework in public education. Parents have the right to know what's happening in their child's life."
