American Council Supports RJUHSD Curriculum Decision

Roseville, CA - This week, The American Council mobilized hundreds of parents and community members to attend the Roseville Joint Union High School School Board Meeting and send emails.

On Thursday night, the RJUHSD enacted the following actions:

  • They amended board policy on curriculum approval to require the district to notify parents and promote family involvement in the curriculum development process.
  • Material that is deemed to be sensitive in nature or controversial will be flagged, discussed, and reviewed to ensure they are age appropriate and have academic purposes.
  • Provide multiple opportunities throughout the process for parental review and input.
  • Provide an opt-out process for parents if they deem approved curriculum or instructional materials are not appropriate for their children (alternative assignments/materials will be provided).
  • Provide an appeal process for parents who disagree with approved curriculum.

We want to thank the RJUHSD Board of Trustees for their leadership. This decision is a win for parents, for students, for teachers, and for the community.

Let us continue the fight for families, for students, and for this community.
