American Council to Speak at CAGOP Initiatives Committee in Opposition of ACA 5
ACA 5 would amend the California Constitution and redefine marriage
Burlingame, CA — On Saturday, May 18, American Council President, Tanner DiBella, is scheduled to speak in front of the California Republican Party Initiatives Committee in opposition of Assembly Constitution Amendment 5.
ACA 5 was introduced in February by California Democrats in response to claims that the Supreme Court of the United States may overturn Obergefell v. Hodges and threaten “marriage equality.”
If passed, ACA5 would remove Proposition 8 language and, instead, codify marriage (with almost no definition) into the state’s constitution.
In a statement, American Council President Tanner DiBella said:
The nuclear family has grounded every nation in human history. It has been the impetus for society to thrive. The California Republican Party is at a defining moment, and I hope they will not abandon its most faithful supporters and choose politics over principles.
In the fall convention of 2023, when California Republicans proposed to cut opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage, an overwhelming majority of the delegation (~87%) voted against it.
Tanner DiBella will represent The American Council, California Family Council, and dozens of other non-profits, church networks, and advocacy groups in making the case to oppose ACA 5.
The American Council is a faith-based advocacy group that works with policymakers, educates the public, and supports pro-family candidates running for office.
