El Dorado County Board of Supervisors American Christian Heritage Month Proclamation

On July 19th, 2023, the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors voted that the month of July "...each year is designated as ‘American Christian History Month.’”
In response, organizations like the Freedom from Religion Foundation, an anti-religion advocacy group, have reacted with disdain and anger at the decision from the board.
The following is a statement from American Council President Tanner DiBella:
"We thank Supervisors Hidahl, Turnboo, Thomas, and Laine for recognizing the contributions of the Christian community in American history. The El Dorado County Board understands that the story of the United States is one of faith and religious conviction.
Groups like the Freedom from Religion Foundations have labeled the proclamation as 'Unconstitutional,' claiming such a move attempts to force religion on society. The words of Christopher Line are not only prejudiced but drip with misinformation and selective history.
We have dozens of annual months recognized in America, such as Military Family Month, Pride Month, Italian-American Heritage Month, and Jewish-American Heritage Month. None of these proclamations force Americans to adhere to the respective communities' beliefs, doctrines, or customs. In the same way, "America Christian History Month" does not force a religion on people. It simply honors the vast contributions of the community in American history.
The proclamation passed by the El Dorado Board honors the rich and diverse spiritual heritage of our history in America. While anti-Christian rhetoric and violence spread across the globe, we thank leaders that choose to honor and respect our community."
