The American Council Responds to Rocklin Teacher's Union
Rocklin, CA — On Thursday, October 31st, the Rocklin Teachers Professional Association, a charter of the California Teachers Association, told the Sacramento Bee that "...we have to go up against outside interests," Ustaszewski-Begley said. "This money is coming from our members ... We're going up against The American Council, Destiny Church, the Mormon Church. We're going up against outside entities that have been dumping money for a long time. So we just want to even the playing field."
In response, the American Council President released the following statement:
"The California Teachers Union’s portrayal of The American Council and local religious congregations as “outside interests” is blatantly false and deliberately deceptive. It is the California Teachers Union—a major Sacramento-based political lobbying group—that represents interests from outside many local communities.
Furthermore, to suggest that a church has contributed financially to political candidates or causes is an unfounded attempt to vilify religious groups active in the political process. Such rhetoric from Union Representative Ustaszewski-Begley is, quite literally, a case of the pot calling the kettle black. The American Council remains committed to engaging in the democratic process with transparency and integrity."
The Sacramento-based California Teacher's Association has poured $50,000 into the Rocklin Unified School District race.
